Sea Scout Ship 25, SSS YORKSHIRE, was chartered 15 May 2000 to the Yorkshire United Methodist Church in York, Pennsylvania. Ship 25 rounds out the church's Scouting family which includes Cub Pack 25 and Boy Scout Troop 25. Ship 25 conducts an extremely active program for co-ed teens ages 14 and completed 8th grade through age 21. Activities involve virtually all things nautical from sailing, power boating, rowing, and canoeing to other high-adventure activities such as hiking, camping, caving, and rappelling. In 2000, Ship 25 completed a four-week 856 nautical mile Long Cruise of New England, the Jersey shore, and the Delaware, and Chesapeake Bays. In 2001 the ship participated with two other Sea Scout ships on a two-week cruise in the British Virgin Islands.
The highlight activity for 2002 is Ship 25's participation in ScoutFleet 2002 onboard Willit Run??, a 1987 34' Silverton flying bridge cruiser owned by Ship 25 Mate Chip Diamond. Willit Run?? is serving as the Chesapeake Flotilla Wardroom's ScoutFleet CIC (Communications Information Center) Vessel for the Sea Scout Training Vessels of the Wardroom en route to and from New York. Willit is equipped with VHF radio, GPS, Radar, and sophisticated APRS vessel tracking electronics in addition to twin GM Crusader main engines. Willit Run?? is capable of a top speed of over 30 knots and carries a crew of 7 Sea Scouts and three adults..S.S.S. YORKSHIRE's contingent for ScoutFleet 2002 includes Skipper George Hay Kain, III, Mate (and Master of Willit Run??) Chip Diamond, Mate Nancy Klinedinst, Committee Chair Wesley Garrod, and Committee Member Mary Wills. Youth members include Boatswain Tim, Boatswain's Mate Matt, Yeoman Amanda Rose, Purser Leah, Storekeeper Isaiah, Medic Amanda Marie, and crewmember Ashley. Guest of Ship 25 is York-Adams Area Squadron Commodore Donald Young.
