Mingulay is an island in the outer Hebrides

Melody - "Lochaber"; Seq. by Barry Taylor

Heel y'ho boys, let her go boys
Bring her head round, into the weather
Heel y' ho boys, let her go boys
Sailing home home to Mingulay

What care we tho’ white the Minch is
What care we for wind or weather
Let her go boys, every inch is
Wearing home home to Mingulay

Heel y'ho boys, let her go boys
Bring her head round, into the weather
Heel y' ho boys, let her go boys
Sailing home home to Mingulay

Wives are waiting by the harbour
Wives been waiting since break o’day-o
Wives been waiting by the harbour
Till the sun sets on Mingulay

Heel y'ho boys, let her go boys
Bring her head round, into the weather
Heel y'ho boys, let her go boys
Sailing home home to Mingulay

Heel y'ho boys, let her go boys
Bring her head round, into the weather
Heel y' ho boys, let her go boys
Sailing home home to Mingulay

Mingulay is the second most southerly of the Bishop's Isles to the south of Barra in the Western Isles. It has a good landing place in Mingulay Bay which can be difficult in a swell. The west side has dramatic cliffs and caves and there is a ruined village on the east side.  To see beautiful photos of Mingulay, click here.
